EVIL GENIUSES VS VICI GAMING DREAMLEAGUE SEASON 13 PLAYOFFS BETTING PREVIEW

Two of the most technically gifted teams in the Dota 2 esports scene will take to the stage this Thursday when ViCi and Evil Geniuses duke it out in round two of the DreamLeague Season 13 upper bracket playoffs. The match will be played as a best-of-three, with the winner locking up a spot in the upper bracket finals.

Evil Geniuses have had a bumpy road through the group stage of the Leipzig Major, where they started with a shock loss against Natus Vincere. They managed to find their stride, however, and bested both paiN Gaming and Team Liquid to grab a place in the upper bracket.

Nigma gave EG a run for their money in the opening round of the DreamLeague S13 playoffs, but the North American side’s superior skill and drafting won through in the end.

ViCi enter Thursday’s bout following a tough first-round clash with their compatriots Invictus Gaming. ViCi and IG took a crushing defeat each in the first two maps before ViCi sealed the series in the third and final game. It was the first time the two teams had ever met in a Dota Pro Circuit event.

ViCi won the first map but were caught flat-footed in game two due to their poor draft. Nonetheless, we cannot ignore the incredible performances from their core duo Zhang “Eurus” Chengjun and Zeng “Ori” Jiaoyang, who once again played a pivotal role in ViCi’s success.

ViCi’s unique strategy seems to be doing wonders for them. They are known to take full advantage of their deep champion pool, which allows them to constantly switch the draft and keep their opponents guessing what version of ViCi they will play against.

While that alone makes ViCi a dangerous tournament team, they also have Bai “rOtK” Fan as their coach, which gives them a significant coaching edge over most of the teams they play against, including EG.

EVIL GENIUSES VS VICI GAMING DREAMLEAGUE SEASON 13 PLAYOFFS PREDICTIONS

Esports bookmakers have ViCi priced as favourites, which is not surprising when they were responsible for eliminating EG from two tournaments this season.

ViCi and EG have already met three times this season. Their first clash came in November at the MDL Chengdu Major, where ViCI defeated EG 2-1 and sent them tumbling down to the lower bracket. They clashed again in December at the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational in Singapore, where EG defeated ViCi in the group stage but fell flat when the two teams renewed hostilities in grand finals.

Despite ViCi’s impressive record against the North American outfit, that does not mean EG have no chance of winning here. One thing we need to consider is that EG held a 5-2 edge over ViCi in the 2018/19 DPC season.

Another thing worth noting is that EG made several roster changes for the 2019/20 DPC that have improved team chemistry and made them stronger in terms of raw technical skill, which leads us to believe they might have a solid chance to win here.

The major concern for EG is the quality of the coaching personnel. While ViCi have an exceptional head coach, we don’t have a lot of faith in Sam “BuLba” Sosale. His tendency to call out questionable draft picks puts EG in trouble more often than not.

Betting on ViCi here is a low-risk decision; however, in a hunt for better odds, we find map betting more suitable. ViCi should come out ahead, but EG have more than enough individual quality to snip at least one map off their adversaries and force a decider.

DREAMLEAGUE SEASON 13 LEIPZIG MAJOR PLAYOFFS BETTING PREVIEW

The group stage of DreamLeague Season 13 Leipzig Major is behind us, meaning its time for the 16 Dota 2 esports teams to enter the gruelling double-elimination playoffs.

The teams have been seeded into upper and lower brackets based on their performance in the group stage. The lower bracket fixtures will be played as best-of-one (Bo1), while the upper bracket clashes will all be played as Bo3.

Here are our DreamLeague S13 playoffs betting picks and predictions, with odds from GG Bet.

Nigma vs Evil Geniuses betting tips

Tuesday, January 21 – 10:30 CET

Nigma ($1.71) earned their spot in Leipzig by winning the WePlay! Bukovel Minor and managed to keep their momentum going to secure the first seed in Group A.

Evil Geniuses ($2.10) started their Leipzig Major venture with a loss against NaVi but bounced back by winning against paiN and Team Liquid, thus securing a spot in the upper bracket.

These two rosters have not met before, but their form in the group stage suggests this could be a close one. While both teams have a legitimate chance of winning, a clean sweep to either side looks unlikely.

Prediction: Over 2.5 maps – $2.04 at GG Bet

Invictus Gaming vs ViCi Gaming betting tips

Tuesday, January 21 – 13:30 CET

The meeting between Invictus Gaming ($3.96) and ViCi Gaming ($1.24) will be one of the biggest mismatches of the playoffs.

ViCi entered the Leipzig Major as the main favourites and had a solid run in the group stage, while IG put up a show in Group C where they bested Alliance and edged past Reality Rift.

If IG were to face any weaker team, we would give them a chance, but the reigning World Pro Invitational champions have showed little to no weakness so far this season. While an upset is possible, we don’t believe it’s plausible.

Prediction: ViCi -1.5 maps – $1.89 at GG Bet

Beastcoast vs paiN Gaming betting tips

Tuesday, January 21 – 17:30 CET

Beastcoast ($1.50) are set to clash with an old enemy in PaiN Gaming ($2.55) for the second time since the start of December. Their first meeting ended in a stalemate, while the second finished 2-1 in paiN’s favour.

Neither team impressed in the group stage, but they seem to match up nicely, which should result in a close bout that can go either way. With that in mind, we will gladly take the generous odds and side with the underdogs to repeat their success from December.

Prediction: paiN Gaming to win – $2.55 at GG Bet

Team Aster vs Chaos EC betting tips

Tuesday, January 21 – 19:00 CET

Based on what Team Aster ($1.44) and Chaos EC ($2.65) produced in the group stage, it’s hard to argue with the betting odds here.

While Aster had their iffy moments when they lost to Fnatic twice, we can’t ignore their 2-0 win against TNC Predator. Chaos, meanwhile, lost to beastcoast and ViCi to finish bottom of Group B.

Don’t expect any surprises here. Chaos EC failed to impress in the group stage and we don’t believe they will be able to leave a dent in Aster either.

Prediction: Team Aster to win – $1.44 at GG Bet

Reality Rift vs TNC Predator betting tips

Tuesday, January 21 – 20:30 CET

Considering how poorly TNC Predator ($1.44) started their Leipzig Major venture, it’s hard to justify their incredibly low odds here. On paper, they are a far superior team to Reality Rift ($2.45), but in reality, we don’t feel like that is the case.

TNC might be the favourites, but they are not worth your money at those odds. With generous odds on the underdogs, we don’t need to think twice about backing Rift for the upset.

Prediction: Reality Rift to win – $2.45 at GG Bet

Team Liquid vs Virtus.pro betting tips

Tuesday, January 21 – 22:00 CET

This one can go either way, but the CIS rosters seems to be very underrated by esports bookmakers.

Virtus.pro ($2.11) failed to make much noise in the group stage, but we would not feel comfortable siding against them after their strong display at the ONE Esports World Pro Invitational last month.

We believe Virtus have the tools to upset Team Liquid ($1.68), who have not shown anything noteworthy since they lost their TI roster to Nigma.

Prediction: Virtus.pro to win – $2.11 at GG Bet

Team Secret vs Fnatic betting tips

Tuesday, January 22 – 10:30 CET

Team Secret ($1.25) had a strong start to the Leipzig Major and are now the tournament favourites. Fnatic ($3.67), meanwhile, failed to show anything noteworthy in the group stage besides their two wins against Aster.

In the group stage Fnatic made easy work of some weaker teams but fell flat against Nigma, which leads us to believe they will have a tough time against a team of Secret’s calibre.

Prediction: Team Secret -1.5 maps – $1.76 at GG Bet

Natus Vincere vs Alliance betting tips

Tuesday, January 22 – 13:30 CET

The last fixture of the first round of playoffs will see NaVi ($1.57) clash with Alliance ($2.31) in what is projected to be a fairly one-sided match.

NaVi had an incredible run in the group stage, where they bested EG and TL, while Alliance left a lot to be desired having lost to IG.

While it is hard to side with Alliance after their iffy display in the group stage, they match up nicely with NaVi and should push this series the distance.

Prediction: Over 2.5 maps – $2.12 at GG Bet

DreamLeague Season 13 Leipzig Major betting preview

The second Dota 2 Major of the season is set to kick off this Saturday at Leipziger Messe in Leipzig, Germany, where we will see 16 teams duke it out for a slice of 15,000 Dota Pro Circuit points and US $1,000,000 prize money.

The format of the tournament will remain the same as it was at the MDL Chengdu Major, meaning there will be four GSL groups with all fixtures played as best-of-three (Bo3), followed by a 16-team, double-elimination playoffs with all fixtures besides the first round of the lower bracket (Bo1) and the grand finals (Bo5) continuing the same Bo3 format.

Of the 16 Dota 2 esports teams in the running, only a few have a realistic shot at the title. Here are our DreamLeague 13 betting picks and predictions for the contenders.

TNC Predator odds for DreamLeague 13

$15.58 at GG Bet

TNC Predator were the hottest team in the early stages of the new season, winning both ESL One Hamburg 2019 and the MDL Chengdu Major, but they have cooled off significantly since.

TNC barely made the cut at the SEA Leipzig qualifiers and showed signs of struggle at the ONE Esports World Pro Invitational in Singapore, where they finished seventh-eighth.

While their results since November have been far from impressive, the Southeast Asian juggernauts are not to be underestimated in Germany. They might not be the outright favourites, but we believe esports bookmakers have severely underestimated Park “March” Tae-Won and company.

Nigma odds for DreamLeague Season 13

$8.00 at GG Bet

The ex-Team Liquid roster qualified for the Dota2 Leipzig Major via the WePlay! Bukovel Minor, where they started off slow but found their stride at the right time to bounce back and secure the title.

We would not be surprised if Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi and co. made a deep run in Leipzig, but their lack of consistency compared to the other contenders makes them a dodgy pick for the title.

If Nigma were priced as high as TNC, they would make for a good dark-horse pick. At $8.00, however, they are not worth the risk.

Evil Geniuses odds for DreamLeague Season 13

$4.71 at GG Bet

Despite their underwhelming fifth-sixth place finish at The International 9, EG started the new season well. They finished fourth at the MDL Chengdu Major and claimed a silver medal at the ONE Esports World Pro Invitational, where they showed amazing synergy.

Evil Geniuses are a team that should never be underestimated, and their solid results in the opening two events of the season lead us to believe they might just win their first tournament since the Manila Masters in May 2017.

EG should have no trouble with Natus Vincere, paiN Gaming and Team Liquid in the group stage, so the question is whether they can match it with the likes of ViCi and Team Secret in the knockout rounds.

Team Secret odds for DreamLeague Season 13

$4.44 at GG Bet

The kings of the 2018/19 DPC season are back and hungry to start the year with a bang.

Following their fourth-place finish at TI9, Team Secret won both the DreamLeague S13 European open and closed qualifiers and finished fifth-sixth at the ONE Esports World Pro Invitational.

Much like EG, Team Secret should not be underestimated. They were dominant throughout the 2018/19 DPC season, which leads us to believe they will be nothing short of a top-three team in 2019/20 as well.

Unlike EG, however, Secret failed to show anything special in Singapore, which is why we don’t trust them to impress here either.

ViCi Gaming odds for DreamLeague Season 13

$3.76 at GG Bet

The reigning DreamLeague Major champions are well backed to defend their title in Germany, and for good reason.

ViCi followed their runner-up finish at the MDL Chengdu Major with a title-winning run in Singapore, making them the hottest team in the Dota 2 esports scene heading into the Leipzig Major.

Esports betting sites have ViCi priced as the outright favourites to hoist the DreamLeague S13 trophy, and there are not a lot of arguments to be made against that.

Dota 2 Leipzig Major betting predictions

This tournament is shaping up as a shootout between ViCi Gaming and Evil Geniuses. ViCi are the team to beat, but it is worth noting that EG bested them in Singapore and gave them a scare at Chengdu as well. Outside those two, TNC Predator could shake things up at long odds.

Prediction: ViCi Gaming – $3.76 at GG Bet
Dark horse: TNC Predator – $15.58 at GG Bet

The DreamLeague Season 13 qualifiers came to a close last week, confirming the first 15 teams that will take part in the second Major of the 2019/20 Dota Pro Circuit season.

The Leipzig Major will kick off on January 18 next year and will feature 16 Dota 2 esports teams from six different regions who will compete for the largest slice of 15,000 DPC points and a US $1,000,000 prize pool.

Here, we will take a look at what has happened in each of the six qualifying sections, which teams made it through and how their journey looked.

DreamLeague Season 13 China qualifiers

Even before the closed qualifiers began in China, we witnessed with one of the biggest upsets of the season when FTD.apollo defeated PSG.LGD in the round of 16 in open qualifiers.

LGD’s early exit from regionals should have made it easier for the other big names to advance, but the surprises did not stop there.

With PSGLGD out of the picture, Aster, EHOME and ViCi were expected to sew up the three DreamLeague S13 places. Instead, it was Dota Summit 11 champions Invictus who joined ViCi in the top two places, with Aster in third and EHOME missing out.

Qualified teams: Invictus Gaming, ViCi Gaming, Team Aster

DreamLeague Season 13 SEA qualifiers

Unlike in China, the Southeast Asia closed qualifiers did not produce any upsets, but that is not to say there wasnt a surprise appearance.

While usual suspects TNC Predator and Fnatic made it through the qualifiers, TNC had to fight for third place after losing to Fnatic in the semi-finals.

Second place went to a total outsider in Reality Rift, who bested TNC twice in the group stage. That just goes to show how stacked the SEA region is.

Qualified teams: Fnatic, Reality Rift, TNC Predator

DreamLeague Season 13 Europe qualifiers

Continuing the trend of upset wins and surprising results, the European qualifiers saw Nigma fail to finish in the top three.

The newly formed roster was seen as a red-hot favourite to book a spot in the Leipzig Major, but Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi fell short in the third-place match and will now chase the last ticket at the WePlay! Bukovel Minor.

It was Alliance who downed Nigma to claim the third European slot, with Team Liquid and Team Secret taking out the top two.

Qualified teams: Team Liquid, Team Secret, Alliance

DreamLeague Season 13 CIS qualifiers

Not many surprises in the CIS regional qualifiers, where the two strongest teams sailed through with no major issues.

While Natus Vincere hit a bump in the road when they lost to Team Spirit in the semi-finals, they dusted themselves off quickly, defeated Gambit 2-1 and then got their revenge against Spirit to secure one of the two available tickets to Leipzig.

Joining them in Germany are Virtus.pro, who finished second to NaVi in the group stage but blitzed the knockout games with a 2-0 win over Gambit and a 2-1 result against Team Spirit.

Qualified teams: Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere

DreamLeague Season 13 South America qualifiers

It should surprise nobody that beastcoast and paiN Gaming are the two teams that will represent South America at the Leipzig Major.

Those two teams met in the upper bracket finals, where paiN secured top spot with a 2-1 victory. That put beastcoast into the lower bracket finals, where they clinched the second ticket to Germany with a 2-0 win over EgoBoyz.

FURIA Esports are still in the running for the final slot at DreamLeague Season 13, although they are considered rank outsiders for the Bukovel Minor.

Qualified teams: paiN Gaming, beastcoast

DreamLeague Season 13 North America qualifiers

Chaos Esports Club were under the spotlight in the North American qualifiers, where the former Quincy Crew roster swept their competition to secure the first spot in the Leipzig Major.

Not many people expected Chaos EC to be as dominant as they were, but Avery “SVG” Silverman and his team stormed through qualifying and lost only one map along the way.

Chaos clinched their ticket with a 2-0 win over Fighting PandaS, while Evil Geniuses won the lower bracket finals with the same scoreline.

Qualified teams: paiN Gaming, Evil Geniuses

Chaos Esports Club swept away their opposition in North American qualifiers for DreamLeague Season 13 to claim the first ticket for the the second Dota 2 Major of the season.

Chaos, formerly Quincy Crew, have had a handful of issues to deal with in the early stages of the season. Not only did they start the campaign without a sponsor, the roster was also brimming with internal turmoil which led to the departure of Syed SumaiL Hassan.

But Quincy Crew overcame their difficulties, were acquired by Chaos Esports Club and qualified for the first Minor of the 2019/20 DPC season. They reached the grand finals at DOTA Summit 11 but had to settle for second place after a crushing 0-3 defeat against Invictus Gaming.

Despite being denied a direct invite to the second Major of the Dota 2 esports season, the talented roster found another way into DreamLeague Season 13 and grabbed the chance with both hands.

A couple of days before DreamLeague Season 13 NA qualifiers took off, Chaos EC announced the signing of former HellRaiser’s offlaner Dmitry DM Dorokhin to fill the void left behind by SumaiL’s exit in October. With a complete roster for the first time in over one month, Chaos EC entered North American qualifiers with all guns blazing and ripped their way through the group stage, where they swept Fighting PandaS, J.Storm, We Dislike Bears and DoZe without dropping a single map.

Chaos EC entered the playoffs in piping-hot form and met with NA region newcomers Ninjas in Pyjamas. The series went the distance, but it was Chaos who managed to pull away in the third match of the series and seal the win.

Chaos EC reunited with Fighting PandaS in the grand finals only a day after sweeping them in the group stage. Chaos managed to repeat the feat, which earned Avery “SVG” Silverman and his team their fifth clean sweep of the qualifiers and a ticket to the DreamLeague Season 13 Major.

Dmitry Dorokhin deserves all the praise he can get for his performance through the qualifiers. As a player who joined the team just a couple of days before the qualifiers took off, he stepped up and played a crucial role in Chaos’ success. DreamLeague Season 13 will mark DM’s first-ever appearance in a Dota 2 Major.

At the Leipzig Major, which is set to kick off on January 18, 2020, Chaos EC will be chasing their first tournament title since January 2017, when the team then known as Digital Chaos defeated Newbee 3-2 in the finals of ESL One Genting 2017.
