The two upper-bracket finals of Group A and B at ESL Pro League Season 20 are set to take place on Saturday, September 7, when Eternal Fire and MiBR will look to continue their miracle run and upset Natus Vincere and G2 Esports, respectively. Here are our picks for those series, with esports odds courtesy of GG Bet.

Eternal Fire are now guaranteed a spot in the ESL Pro League Season 20 playoffs, but they can still book a direct invite to the quarterfinals. However, this will be easier said than done.

Eternal Fire have had a relatively easy road to this stage, with victories against FlyQuest and Sangal Esports. They were dominant in both victories, however, so it is fair to assume they are ready to take a step up.

Natus Vincere are the highest-ranked Counter-Strike team in the world, but their performances in this tournament have been lacklustre despite playing weaker opponents in Lynn Vision and Ninjas in Pyjamas. If this continues, NaVi should not have an easy time beating Eternal Fire either.

MiBR left a huge statement on Thursday when they reverse-swept Team Spirit in three maps, having previously edged past 9z Team. However, two strong results in a long line of shaky displays do not prove much, so it is not wrong to doubt the Brazilians in this matchup.

G2 Esports, like most other top-rated teams, have not had the strongest start to ESL Pro League Season 20. They dropped 17 rounds against KOI and needed a reverse sweep to surpass 3DMAX. Still, this same roster won BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2024 and placed second at the Esports World Cup 2024.

MiBR have exceeded expectations this tournament, but it is fair to say it was nothing more than a fluke. Barring any surprises, G2 Esports are a solid bet to sweep at the odds offered by top Counter-Strike betting sites.

Natus Vincere and Eternal Fire have secured spots in the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 20 after winning their upper bracket semi-finals 2-0 in Group A against Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal Esports, respectively.

Both teams, sitting at No. 1 and No. 11 in the global Counter-Strike 2 rankings, had dominant starts, defeating Lynn Vision and FlyQuest in their opening matches.

Their victories in the semi-finals ensure a place in the playoffs, where they will now face each other in a seeding match.

The winner will advance directly to the quarter-finals of the 16-team playoff bracket, while the loser will begin their playoff journey in the second round.

Sangal, led by former Eternal Fire and academy players Yasin “xfl0ud” Ko? and Samet “jottAAA” K?kl, had an impressive run leading up to the Pro League, including a surprise victory over FaZe Clan in their opening match.

However, they were outmatched by Eternal Fire, especially on Dust2.

Sangal started strong with a 7-5 lead but struggled to maintain their momentum, winning only two more rounds across the series.

Eternal Fires ?zgr “woxic” Eker, Ismailcan “XANTARES” D?rtkarde?, and Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yal??n dominated the defence, securing a playoff spot with a decisive 13-1 win on Nuke.

Natus Vincere faced Ninjas in Pyjamas in their advancement match, with some pre-game tension stirred by Justinas “jL” Lekavicius quoting an interview from Artem “r1nkle” Moroz, where the Ukrainian sniper compared himself to NaVis Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov.

However, r1nkle was outclassed by w0nderful during the series, ending with a 0.79 rating compared to w0nderful’s 1.39.

Mihai “iM” Ivan led NaVi to victory with a 1.69 rating across Ancient and Dust2.

Meanwhile, FaZe avoided elimination by defeating FlyQuest 2-0 (13-9, 13-11) in the lower bracket and will next face Ninjas in Pyjamas as they attempt to recover from a poor start in Malta.

Heroic also narrowly avoided an upset against Lynn Vision, eventually securing their place in the lower bracket with a 2-1 (13-10, 6-13, 13-7) win, where they will face Sangal in their next match.

Earlier in the day, Team Spirit took care of business in their opening round clash against Wildcard, thanks to a Danil “?donk?” Kryshkovets masterclass, where the Russian rifler broke the Counter-Strike 2 kill record.

Donk racked up a massive 38 kills on Ancient before recording another 37 on Nuke to power Spirit to a 2-0 (13-11, 16-13) victory over their North American opponents.

    Thursday’s ESL Pro League fixtures

Team Vitality has been crowned champions of IEM Cologne 2024, securing a hard-fought 3-1 (16-14, 10-13, 22-20, 13-9) victory over Natus Vincere (NaVi) in what many are calling one of the finest series of the year.

For Dan “?apEX?” Madesclaire, the triumph marked the end of a ten-year chase for victory at this prestigious event.

After falling short in two previous finals, apEX finally lifted the silverware, a dream realised after a decade of close calls.

“Finally, after three Cologne finals, I’m leaving with the trophy,” apEX said after the match.

His excitement was well-earned, as the French captain delivered a masterful performance, both tactically and individually, in a series that will be remembered for its high-octane action and razor-thin margins.

The grand final pitted two of the world’s best Counter-Strike 2 teams against each other in a best-of-five series that didn’t disappoint.

The first three maps were decided by the narrowest of margins, with Mirage, in particular, standing out as one of the year’s most thrilling games.

NaVi, fresh off their Esports World Cup victory, came close to bagging back-to-back trophies but fell just short in this epic contest.

Aleksi “?Aleksib?” Virolainen, NaVi’s in-game leader, once again found himself cursed in grand final series’, extending his record to 0-7 in best-of-five matches.

Meanwhile, Justinas “?jL?” Lekavicius, who had been a standout at the Copenhagen Major, struggled throughout the series, finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard, a far cry from his usual form.

The series began on Nuke, where NaVi’s leading MVP candidate, Valeriy “?b1t?” Vakhovskiy, had an uncharacteristically rough start, going 1-11 in the first half.

Despite a brief resurgence, NaVi couldn’t recover, and Vitality took the map 16C13.

On Dust2, NaVi bounced back, with b1t finding his form and leading his team to a narrow victory, but the story of the series was far from over.

Mirage proved to be the turning point.

Both teams were riding high on long win streaks on the map, and the match lived up to expectations, going all the way to a 22-20 triple overtime finish.

ZywOo was the hero for Vitality, delivering crucial plays in overtime that swung the map in his team’s favour.

By the time the series reached Inferno, the momentum was firmly with Vitality.

They dominated the early rounds and raced to a 10-2 lead.

Although NaVi showed resilience and mounted a late comeback, Vitality’s William “?mezii?” Merriman secured a crucial triple kill on the A site, sealing the series with a 13-9 victory and clinching the tournament title.

For apEX, this victory was especially sweet.

Having suffered heartbreak in Cologne twice before, once with EnVyUs in 2015 and again with Vitality in 2019, this was his third and final chance to capture the elusive title.

He didn’t disappoint, leading his team to glory and adding another prestigious trophy to his collection.

ZywOo also had a standout performance and was awarded with the Most Valuable Player award, finishing with 100 kills across the four maps, a staggering feat that solidified his claim as one of the best CS2 players.

The difference between him and NaVi’s young AWPer, Ihor “?w0nderful?” Zhdanov, was stark, with ZywOo’s experience and composure shining through in the most critical moments.

Despite their loss, NaVi can take solace in their successful 2024 campaign, which includes victories at the PGL Major Copenhagen and the Esports World Cup.

However, their struggles in best-of-five series remain a glaring issue, and Aleksib’s winless streak in such finals will undoubtedly be a point of concern moving forward.

As the dust settles on IEM Cologne 2024, both teams will shift their focus to the upcoming ESL Pro League season, which starts on September 3.

With neither team involved in the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown, they will have time to regroup and prepare for the next challenge.

In the end, this year’s IEM Cologne lived up to the event’s storied reputation.

The Cathedral of Counter-Strike once again delivered unforgettable moments, with Vitality and NaVi putting on a show that will be remembered for years to come.

From the knife’s-edge battles of the first three maps to the final triumph on Inferno, IEM Cologne 2024 was Counter-Strike at its finest.

The first semi-final of IEM Cologne 2024 saw Team Vitality secure their spot in the grand final after a commanding 2-0 victory over Portuguese underdogs SAW.

Despite entering the Counter-Strike match as favourites, Vitality remained vigilant against SAW, who had earlier taken down top teams like G2 Esports and FaZe Clan in a stunning run.

Vitality captain Dan “apEX” Madesclaire emphasised their respect for SAWs performance, saying, “We did not underestimate them, but focused on ourselves, and it paid off.”

The match kicked off on SAW’s pick, Nuke, where the underdogs managed to stand toe-to-toe with Vitality early on.

However, after a crucial misstep against pistols, Vitality regained control, eventually turning a 3-5 deficit into a 7-5 half.

Vitality dominated on their terrorist side, allowing SAW just one more round and taking the map 13-6.

The momentum carried into Dust2, where Vitality crushed a deflated SAW 13-5, securing their place in the final.

For SAW, this loss marked the end of their best run in a Big Event, but they can take pride in making their first appearance on such a big stage in Cologne.

The second semi-final saw Natus Vincere (NaVi) edge out MOUZ in a tightly contested two-map series, extending their unbeaten run on Mirage to 12 wins.

Despite NaVi’s strong group stage showing, MOUZ made them fight hard for the victory.

MOUZs surprise pick of Inferno caught NaVi off guard, but NaVi managed to rally, winning crucial clutches to take the map 13-11.

On Mirage, MOUZ initially dominated, with Dorian “xertioN” Berman leading the charge with an 18-5 K/D and 152 ADR in the first half.

However, NaVi’s resilience, bolstered by clutch plays from Justinas “jL” Lekavicius and Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov, allowed them to claw back and win 16-13, securing their spot in the final.

Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen, NaVi’s captain, acknowledged that they need to improve their terrorist-side play if they want to defeat Vitality in the upcoming best-of-five grand final.

The match promises to be a high-stakes showdown between two of the worlds top teams, with NaVi looking to continue their dominant form and Vitality eager to claim their first trophy of 2024.

The final day of the IEM Cologne group stage was marked by intense battles and unexpected comebacks, with FaZe Clan and Team Liquid capturing the spotlight in a thrilling rematch.

Both teams secured their spots in the Group B lower bracket final after decisive 2-0 victories in the Counter-Strike 2 event.

FaZe dominated Falcons and Liquid bested Complexity, setting up a high-stakes clash later in the day for a place in the playoffs.

Liquid’s choice to play Ancient, a map they had only recently added to their map pool, proved risky yet effective.

Despite Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak having a quiet start, Liquid’s riflers, including Keith “?NAF?” Markovic and Russel “?Twistzz?” Van Dulken, stepped up to secure a close win on the first map.

Mareks “?YEKINDAR?” Ga?inskis made key plays on the counter-terrorist side, helping Liquid maintain their momentum.

The second map, Anubis, saw Liquid dominate with strong counter-terrorist tactics and a resurgent ultimate, who delivered an ace to regain his confidence.

Liquid won six straight rounds in the second half to quickly wrap up the series with a 13-5 win.

FaZe entered their match against Falcons as heavy favorites with esports betting sites, and they lived up to expectations.

Dust2 began with an 8-0 streak, with H?vard “?rain?” Nygaard dismantling the Falcons’ offense.

Although Falcons managed to force overtime, FaZe’s superior firepower and strategic adjustments secured a 16-13 win.

The second map, Ancient, saw a back-and-forth battle, but FaZe’s momentum from a crucial pistol round propelled them to victory, sealing their spot in the lower bracket final.

The rematch between FaZe and Liquid was nothing short of epic.

FaZe had narrowly defeated Liquid in their group opener, but this time, the stakes were even higher, with a spot in the playoffs on the line.

Liquid picked Inferno instead of Mirage, hoping for a better outcome, but FaZe’s David “?frozen?” ?eransky dominated the B-site, helping FaZe secure a 13-9 win.

Nuke was more competitive, with Liquid pushing the game into overtime before FaZe’s defence, led by frozen, halted several of their advances.

Liquid eventually broke through the strong defences, securing the map with a 16-13 scoreline to send the series to a deciding map.

The decider on Mirage seemed destined for a Liquid victory as they stormed to an 11-1 lead, leaving FaZe on the brink of elimination.

However, in one of the greatest comebacks in CS2 history, FaZe clawed their way back from a 3-12 deficit.

A flawless defence from ?rain? and Robin “?ropz?” Kool shut down Liquid’s attacks, forcing the match into overtime.

FaZe completed their miraculous comeback, winning nine consecutive rounds to secure a spot in the playoffs.

In Group A, G2 Esports made a statement by crushing paiN Gaming 2-0 (13-6, 13-1) in a one-sided series, securing their playoff spot.

Nikola “?NiKo?” Kova? and new addition Mario “?malbsMd?” Samayoa led the charge, with G2 delivering a string of dominant victories through the lower bracket.

Natus Vincere, after a sluggish start against SAW, found their form on Ancient and Inferno, securing a 2-1 (9-13, 13-2, 13-6) win and a direct path to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Team Vitality overcame MOUZ 2-0 (13-6, 16-13) in a tough upper bracket final, avoiding a quarter-final matchup against the in-form G2.

Team Spirit was seeking to become the fourth team in Counter-Strike history to claim both IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne in the same year; however, their campaign has been swiftly ended by G2 Esports.

The world number two entered IEM Cologne 2024 as the $3.50 favourite with esports betting sites, but after falling to The Mongolz in the opening round, Spirit were faced with a daunting task against G2 in the lower bracket to remain in the tournament.

G2, who were also upset by a play-in stage qualifier, had their IEM Cologne title defence dealt an early blow after suffering a 0-2 loss against SAW.

The do-or-die series began on Spirit’s map pick of Nuke, and it was Nemanja ‘huNter-‘ Kova? who started off hot for G2, recording five kills in the first two rounds to set the tone.

The Kova? cousins, Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kova? and huNter-, dominated for G2 in the first half, propelling the squad to a 9-3 halftime lead.

Three first-half rounds would be the only round wins that Spirit claimed, as G2 quickly wrapped up the map 13-3.

Only Danil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets cracked double-digit kills (10), while Myroslav ‘zont1x’ Plakhotia struggled with four kills and 37.9 ADR on Nuke.

Following a lacklustre performance on their map, Spirit was tasked with playing G2’s pick of Mirage.

However, G2 started Mirage with four straight rounds on the terrorist side before Spirit won their first, thanks to three kills from zont1x.

Unfortunately for Spirit, G2 continued their dominance and finished the half with a massive 11-1 lead before closing out the series with a 13-1 demolition.

Spirit has been sent packing from IEM Cologne following an embarrassing performance, which saw them win just four rounds in the clash with G2.

9z Team joined Spirit in last place after they were eliminated from Cologne by paiN Gaming in a back-and-forth three-map series, with paiN completing the reverse sweep after losing the first map.

Meanwhile, Natus Vincere (NaVi) and SAW secured their spots in the LANXESS Arena following their victories in the Group A upper bracket semi-finals.

NaVi proved too strong for Astralis and took the series 2-0 (13-4, 13-7).

SAW was pushed to their limits against The Mongolz, as they played all three maps and eventually claimed the series 2-1 (13-16, 13-7, 13-10).

The IEM Cologne group stage will continue on Monday, with two elimination matches scheduled to kick off the day.

Astralis secured their spot at the BLAST Premier Fall Final in Copenhagen by defeating Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) in a two-map series.

The Counter-Strike matches, held on Mirage and Inferno, ended with scores of 13-6 and 13-5, respectively, in favour of Astralis.

Nicolai “?device?” Reedtz expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, acknowledging NiP’s potential despite their lacklustre showing.

“We played really well, and NIP are probably a better team than they showed today,” device commented post-match.

“It’s been a decent tournament. We had some really good moments against Vitality, even though we lost. We’re happy to get the season started.”

Artem “?r1nkle?” Moroz had a notably tough series, averaging a 0.62 rating and managing only four AWP kills.

Despite the setback, NIPs coach, Richard “?Xizt?” Landstr?m, remained optimistic.

“We can’t get too greedy with how good we want to be results-wise. We’re facing really good teams and have some young players, so we just need a bit of time and experience,” he said.

Astralis’ journey to the play-in match came after a second-place finish in their group, where they were defeated by Team Vitality.

NiP, on the other hand, fell to G2 Esports in their group.

The series commenced on Mirage, with Jakob “?jabbi?” Nygaard (1.78 rating) and Martin “?stavn?” Lund (1.57 rating) leading Astralis to victory.

Inferno saw NiP struggle further, posting only five rounds despite winning both pistol rounds, ultimately ending their campaign in disappointment.

In the final series of BLAST Premier Fall Groups, Natus Vincere (NaVi) claimed the sixth Fall Final spot by defeating Complexity 2-0 (13-11, 13-6).

NAVIs run through the groups was challenging, marked by two losses to Team Liquid.

However, they capitalised on their second qualification attempt against Complexity.

The match on Anubis was closely contested, with Complexity leading 6-1 on the counter-terrorist side before NaVi turned the tide.

Key performances from Justinas “?jL?” Lekavicius and crucial entries by Aleksi “?Aleksib?” Virolainen helped secure the map.

On Nuke, NaVi dominated from the start, concluding with a 9-3 offensive half and a quick series close.

Jonathan ‘EliGE’ Jablonowski played a lone hand for Complexity throughout the series, finishing as their only player to record a positive kill/death difference (+5) and the third-highest rated player on the server (1.15).

Post-match, jL reflected on NAVI’s performance, emphasising the importance of their group stage struggles.

“It’s good that we got exposed here so that we can focus on Cologne,” jL stated.

“I think it was B1ad3’s master plan all along. Play five games so we get the most practice and be ready for Cologne.

“Jokes aside, our mistakes got exposed and we can fix them.”

Complexity and Ninjas in Pyjamas will drop into the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown, joining the 14 other squads who will compete for the final two spots at the Fall Final.

Team Spirit became the first team to secure a spot at the Counter-Strike 2 BLAST Premier Fall Final after a hard-fought 2-1 (16-19, 13-6, 13-10) victory over Complexity in the Group A final.

Despite entering as heavy favourites with top esports betting sites, Spirit faced a challenging match.

Complexity managed to secure a double-overtime win on Dust2, overcoming a series of highlight plays from Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov.

However, Spirit rebounded on Anubis, maintaining their eight-map winning streak with a decisive 13-6 victory.

The final map, Nuke, saw Complexity initially leading, but Spirit’s Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov and sh1ro’s clutch plays turned the tide, securing a seven-round streak and the series win.

G2 Esports clinched a spot at the BLAST Premier Fall Final with a dominant 2-0 (13-7, 13-8) victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas.

On Ancient, G2’s Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov led the charge with 16 kills in the first half, and while Max “maxster” Jansson shone on the terrorist side, G2 secured the map off the back of a strong first half performance.

Inferno saw G2 quickly gaining a 6-2 lead before Ninjas in Pyjamas briefly rallied.

However, G2’s solid performance on both sides of the map led to a comfortable victory.

Despite the win, G2’s in-game leader, Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski, admitted the team made some mistakes but felt no significant pressure during the match.

Vitality emerged victorious in Group B, defeating Astralis 2-1 (10-13, 13-10, 13-7) to secure their place at the Fall Final.

Astralis started strong on Vertigo, winning 13-10 after a competitive first half.

However, Vitality bounced back on Mirage, overcoming a 0-7 deficit to win 13-10.

The decider, Nuke, was a tight contest in the first half, with Astralis holding a 7-5 lead.

Vitality’s impeccable defense in the second half, led by Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, secured an eight-round streak, culminating in a 13-7 victory and a ticket to Copenhagen.

Team Liquid booked their spot in the Fall Final after triumphing over Natus Vincere in their Group D rematch, winning 2-1 (9-13, 16-14, 13-10) after a fiercely contested series.

NaVi dominated the early stages of Nuke, leading 10-2, but Liquid’s strong defence made it a closer 13-9 finish.

On Anubis, Liquid’s impressive terrorist-side play led to a 16-14 overtime victory.

The decider, Inferno, featured dramatic swings, with NaVi initially gaining control with a nine-round streak.

Liquid, however, turned the game around on the counter-terrorist side, driven by Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak’s performance, and secured the map 13-10, earning their spot in the Fall Final.

The losers from each of the four finals will clash in two do-or-die series’, with the winners earning automatic qualification into the Fall Final and the losers relegated to the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown.

Team Liquid has advanced to the upper bracket final of Group D at the BLAST Premier Fall Groups after a 2-0 victory over Virtus.pro.

The match required triple overtime to close out Ancient with a 22-20 scoreline, followed by a dominant 13-6 win on Virtus.pro’s Dust2 pick.

The Dutch Counter-Strike organisation recently underwent a significant overhaul, replacing Casper “?cadiaN?” M?ller, Felipe “?skullz?” Medeiros, and head coach Wilton “?zews?” Prado with Justin “?jks?” Savage, Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak, and former Apeks coach Torbj?rn “?mithR?” Nyborg.

This was the jks’ first official match since being benched from G2 Esports in October 2023.

The relatively unknown ultimate joined the team after impressing players in Europes tier-three scene and passing the eye test of Russel “?Twistzz?” Van Dulken.

Twistzz, the 24-year-old Canadian, took up leadership duties as part of the overhaul, raising questions about his ability to maintain top-rated performances while guiding the team.

However, Liquid excelled in their first test against Virtus.pro.

The series started with both teams tied at 4-4 on Ancient, but jks and Mareks “?YEKINDAR?” Ga?inskis propelled Liquid to an 8-4 lead on the T-side and quickly reached map point in the second half, 12-7.

Dzhami “?Jame?” Ali’s clutch plays fueled a Virtus.pro comeback, leading to overtime.

In overtime, ultimate stepped up and carried Liquid to victory.

On Dust2, Virtus.pro initially led 4-1, but Twistzz’s secondary AWP and Keith “?NAF?” Markovic’s stellar B defence turned the tide.

Liquid led 7-5 at the half and dominated the second half, with Twistzz’s eco kills and a crucial 1vs3 clutch securing the win.

Meanwhile, in Group C, Cloud9 pursued their first victory with a new lineup but fell to FaZe Clan in overtime.

Sergey “?Ax1Le?” Rykhtorov, Kaisar “?ICY?” Faiznurov, and Nikita “?HeavyGod?” Martynenko formed a formidable trio.

Despite a strong defence on Dust2 and a comeback attempt, FaZe triumphed with a strong performance from David “?frozen?” ?eransky on Mirage.

Frozen, who struggled on Inferno, excelled in the decider, helping FaZe secure their spot in the upper bracket final.

Meanwhile, G2 Esports and Natus Vincere took care of their opening round fixtures against Ninjas in Pyjamas and BIG, respectively.

Both Esports World Cup finalists recorded relatively straight-forward 2-0 victories in their clashes, with NaVi setting up an intriguing upper bracket final against Team Liquid and G2 meeting FaZe Clan.

    • FaZe Clan ($2.25) vs G2 Esports ($1.57) @ 12pm CEST
    • Cloud9 ($1.66) vs Ninjas in Pyjamas ($2.10) @ 2:30pm CEST
