Two of Australia’s premier esports teams are set to merge, following careful deliberation from the outfits.

It was revealed over the weekend that Team Bliss had acquired fellow Aussie outfit The Chiefs Esports Club, in a move that will increase the exposure of both on the international stage.

While the two teams will merge and share resources, both will continue to operate as individual brands, keeping both Team Bliss and The Chiefs names active.

We couldnt be more excited about what this merger means for the future of Oceanic esports,” Chief Operating Officer of Team Bliss Brendan Harms said.

More: Esports betting in Australia

“By merging the strengths of two premier organisations, our goal is to make a more substantial mark on the global scene and provide Oceanic esports enthusiasts a formidable team to support.

“Collaborating with the exceptional management team from Chiefs to contribute to the broader OCE industry is indeed a realised dream.

What is surprising about the merger, is that Team Bliss is the newer entity, having only launched in 2019 while their more senior partner began in 2014 and has had more success globally.

Team Bliss has steadily built its name on the regional esports scene, especially with notable successes in PUBG and Rainbow Six: Siege. By 2023, the team marked its presence in the League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO).

On the other hand, The Chiefs’ League of Legends squad clinched victory at the LCO Split 2 in June.

Both teams said discussions about the merger had been ongoing and that they had nurtured a professional relationship over the past year. Their collaboration was evident when they jointly worked with Logitech G for the debut of the Logitech G Pro X2 headset.

While the details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, both parties mentioned that future plans regarding teams or titles to compete in are still under discussion.

In the wake of the merger, Nick Bobir, who held the dual roles of Managing Director for The Chiefs and CEO of ICON ESPORTS (which had acquired The Chiefs in 2021), has resigned.

To ensure a smooth transition, Chris Smith, founder of Business in Games and BIGR AI, has stepped in as an advisor. He aims to provide insights for commercialisation and drive growth over the next two years. Additionally, Mat Jessep from Game Legal will collaborate with the newly merged entity to guarantee its flourishing future.

Australia has a thriving esports scene, including all esports betting sites, featuring markets on Team Bliss and The Chiefs Esports.

McDonald’s Australia (popularly known as Maccas in the region) has formed a partnership with the Australian-based esports organization, The Chiefs Esports Club.

This collaboration will have both parties launch a lineup of educational live streams featuring League of Legends streamer Drew “Midbeast” Timbs and LCO interviewer Athena “kittwy” Jiang.

Other skilled players, such as Alex Glenn, a former professional rugby league player and Aiden “Ayekay” Hiko, a member of the Chiefs, will also be participating in the show. In addition, there will be a live tour of the Chiefs Country Club provided during the course of the broadcast’s four-hour duration.

According to Chiefs’ CEO Nick Bobir, the entire organisation is very excited about the upcoming show and said working with “Maccas” was always productive.

“Plus, having the opportunity to bring incredible talent like Kitty and Midbeast together, as well as have them streaming live from the house is an awesome opportunity,” he said.

“I’m excited to see how they stack up against our League of Legends roster.”

Due to this partnership, fans from all over the region, who tune in to the streams will have the opportunity to win a wide variety of prizes, including merchandise that is exclusive to the collaboration between McDonald’s and, the Chiefs, which will be unveiled on the day the show begins.

The broadcast will start at 11 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Sunday, August 21. It can be seen on Midbeast’s Twitch channel.

For some time now, McDonald’s has been working to expand its presence in the world of esports. A couple of months ago, the quick-service food company collaborated with Nicecactus to host a series of FIFA22 tournaments in six different nations located in the MENA region.

Recently, an agreement to collaborate on a variety of activations was reached between the Australian esports organization and the shopping center company Westfield. This agreement is spanned for a period of two years. McDonalds Australia has now joined the organization as its sixth partner, following in the footsteps of Westfield, the battery manufacturer Energizer, the skincare brand L’Oral Paris Men Expert, and the gaming chair firm AndaSeat,

The Chiefs have also created resourceful partnerships with the likes of Optus, the telecommunications company and esports organisation, JLINGZ Esports.

The Australian esports organization is regarded as one of the most prestigious esports clubs in Oceania, and it fields teams competing in games like League of Legends, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege and Halo Infinite.

The Chiefs’ League of Legends team competes in the LCO, which is the highest tier of League of Legends competition in Oceania.

Big names missing from LoL Worlds in Shanghai

The League of Legends World Championships is quickly approaching as teams make their way to Shanghai for their 14-day quarantine period ahead of the first games. The campaign is set to start on September 25, with teams finding out this week who theyll be up against.

However, this year some familiar faces will be missing. Cloud9 have had a dismal year and didnt make the cut, and neither did the 2019 champions, FunPlus Phoenix. Other notable teams thatll be missing include Invictus Gaming and T1.

Therell also be no Vietnamese groups this year as the country is experiencing severe travel restrictions due to COVID-19. As a result, Riot Games have shuffled the qualifiers slightly and reduced the amount of participating teams to 22.

You can expect to see some new and old faces with those that have made it for the group stage and the play-ins. DAMWON Gaming, DRX, Fnatic, Gen.G, and Top Esport are just a few of the 12 seeded into the group stage, while the play-ins include Rainbow7, MAD Lions, and Team Liquid among the 10.

Youssef Mohsen, the organization’s founder, says that theyre planning to use the investment funds to bring in new players, international coaches and launch an apparel line.

Anubis have achieved more than 20 titles since launching in 2015. They are the first African team to reach a high level since becoming the regional champions in Crossfire and participating in the world championship playoffs.

ORDER vs AVANT GAMING ESL ONE COLOGNE 2020 BETTING PREVIEW

ORDER and Avant Gaming will clash in the second fixture of ESL One Cologne 2020 Online Oceania this Wednesday, marking their 15th meeting of the year and their third in August.

ORDER are aiming for their second title of 2020, having claimed the ESEA Season 33 Premier Division Australia crown in March. Besides that, Jireh “J1rah” Youakim and his team also completed runs through ESL Pro League Season 12 and DreamHack Open Summer 2020 qualifying, and they reached the grand finals of the Asia Minor Championship Rio 2020 Oceanic Closed Qualifier, ESL ANZ Champs Season 10 and ESL One Road to Rio Oceania.

Most recently, ORDER made it to the last stage of DreamHack Open Summer 2020 Oceania, where they lost 0-2 to the eventual champions, Renegades, in the upper bracket finals and 0-2 against Avant in the lower bracket finals to finish third.

ORDER hold a 78.6% win rate across the last three months and are 17-3 from their last 20 games. Their only losses in that time came against Renegades and twice against Avant, but they also registered a 3-1 win against Renegades and two triumphs against Avant.

Avant Gaming enter ESL One Cologne 2020 as the fourth-ranked team in the region behind 100 Thieves, Renegades and ORDER. However, given that the tournament includes only the four strongest Australian CS:GO teams besides 100T, Avant and Chiefs Esports Club are the undisputed underdogs in this field.

At the start of August, Avant announced the arrival of ex-Chiefs Esports Club player Hugh “HUGHMUNGUS” Anderson as a replacement for Chris “ofnu” Hanley, who left for Chiefs in July. While the signing was viewed as a massive positive for Peter “BL1TZ” Athanasatos and his crew, their results since have been mediocre at best.

Since the CS:GO esports scene resumed earlier this month, Avant have won only three out of nine fixtures. This is only an extension of their struggles this year, as they have won only 56.7% of their matches across the last three months.

Avant recently attended ESL ANZ Champs Season 11, where they left a lot to be desired. After losing to Paradox Gaming (1-2) in the upper bracket quarter-finals, Avant bounced back with a 2-0 win against Rooster but fell apart in the second round of the lower bracket when they lost 0-2 against Renegades on Saturday.

That match was as one-sided as it can get, with Renegades outclassing Avant Gaming on both Nuke (16-9) and Mirage (16-4). Not a single Avant player produced a positive rating, as Euan “sterling” Moore was their best with a 0.96 rating and +1 kill/death differential. Meanwhile, Jared “HaZR” O’Bree had an off-day and ended the series with a lowly 0.64 rating.

ORDER vs AVANT GAMING ESL ONE COLOGNE 2020 BETTING PREDICTIONS

Avant Gaming have won eight of their 14 meetings with ORDER, which should, in theory, give them an edge this Wednesday. However, it’s hard to be too optimistic about this rosters chances after a series of shaky displays this month. Having said that, ORDER are not looking too sharp either.

Avant are 1-4 in their last five games and hold a poor 5-10 map differential, whereas ORDER are 2-3 with a 5-7 map differential. Given that iffy form and their history of even contests, we can expect another close one here.

Neither squad inspires much confidence in the result markets, so we are tipping a three-map series that could go either way.

RENEGADES vs CHIEFS ESPORTS CLUB ESL ONE COLOGNE 2020 BETTING PREVIEW

The Oceanic sector of ESL One Cologne 2020 Online will kick off this Tuesday with a clash between two regional rivals in Renegades and Chiefs Esports Club.

After losing their entire roster to 100 Thieves in October 2019, Renegades needed only a few months to rebuild and solidify themselves as one of the strongest Australian CS:GO organisations. While the current version of the team is not nearly as good as the previous one, Chris “dexter” Nong and co. deserve a lot of praise for their firm hold of the no.2 spot in the regional rankings.

Looking back at what Renegades have achieved throughout 2020, it’s hard to not be impressed. They started the year by qualifying for the Intel Extreme Masters XIV World Championship, where they later finished 13th-16. At the end of January, they made it to the grand finals of DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020.

Since then, Renegades have won every single tournament they’ve attended: DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 Oceania, Asia Minor Championship Rio 2020 Oceanic Closed Qualifier, ESL One Road to Rio Oceania, and DreamHack Open Summer 2020 Oceania. That form comes as part of a 17-2 run after crashing out of IEM Katowice.

There was a time when Chiefs ESC were a force to be reckoned with, both on their home soil and internationally, but those days are long gone. They have gone through quite a few roster changes in recent times, albeit with far less success than Renegades.

The most recent personnel change happened only a couple of weeks ago when Hugh “HUGHMUNGUS” Anderson left for Avant Gaming, leaving Chiefs with a roster consisting of Tom “apocdud” Henry, Charlie “zeph” Dodd, Ju-young “soju_j” Jeong, Chris “ofnu” Hanley and a relative unknown in Declan “Vexite” Portelli.

Even though that looks fairly solid on paper, Chiefs are not performing at the level you would expect of them. Their only notable accomplishments this season are third place at ESL One Road to Rio in May and fourth at DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 a month later.

Most recently, Chiefs took a swing at ESEA Season 34 Premier Division Australia, where they had to settle for seventh-eighth place after they were forced to forfeit their game against TRUCKERS WITH ATTITUDE due to an incomplete roster. Despite that, Chiefs are 9-3 in their last 12 games, although they have not played any tough fixtures outside of their losses to Avant and ORDER.

RENEGADES vs CHIEFS ESPORTS CLUB ESL ONE COLOGNE 2020 BETTING PREDICTIONS

The CS:GO betting odds for this match paint a clear picture of how this game will go. Renegades are undoubtedly one of the top dogs in own region, while Chiefs Esports Club are a shadow of their former selves.

There is always a chance we might see an upset, but there are many things that would suggest otherwise. Besides the mismatch in form and quality, Chiefs have not played for over a month and will field coach Yaman “yam” Ergenekon instead of ofnu in this clash.

All signs point to a clean sweep for Renegades. If you can get your hands on odds higher than $1.40, load up on the favourites to cover the -1.5 line.

Content creator Lachlan Ross “Lachlan” Power has officially launched Team PWR, who are set to make waves in the Oceanic Fortnite scene.

While rarely brought up in discussions about strong esports regions, Oceania has fostered household names such as two-time The International champion Anathan “ana” Pham, 2017 TI finalist Damien “kpii” Chok, Golden Guardians ADC Ian Victor “FBI” Huang and one of the top 10 CS:GO rosters in 100 Thieves.

Due to the lack of exposure and small player base, however, Oceania is often overlooked, which makes it one of the most underrated regions in competitive esports – a situation Lachlan hopes to change with Team PWR.

In the announcement video that surfaced on social media on Sunday, Lachlan unveiled the team’s name, logo, players, the philosophy behind the organisation and his ambition to give players in his native region the international exposure they deserve.

Team PWR’s roster will feature some of the best Fortnite players from the region, including Morgan “RepulseGod” Bamford, Austin “worthy” King, Sebastian “looter” and Arthur “radius” Gouzos. Also, Mitch “Chanzes” Power has signed on as a content creator.

RepulseGod, worthy and looter are among the highest-rated PC Fortnite players from Oceania. Looter is ranked sixth with 27,300 Fortnite Power Ranking (PR) points, RepulseGod sits at the third place with 29,850 points and worthy leads the standings with 37,250 points – almost 7,000 more than the second-placed player, Ryley “Jynx” Linde.

Worthy stands out as the biggest addition to Team PWR. The young Australian esports pro has numerous Cash Cup titles under his belt and is a four-time Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) finalist.

RepulseGod has been a force in his region since early 2019. He finished fourth in both Week 7 and Week 9 of the Oceanic Fortnite World Cup qualifiers, has reached four FNCS finals and ran fourth in the DreamHack Anaheim 2020 grand finals.

“The big reason why I started this team was to try and bring some spotlight on OCE. I feel like our region gets slept on a lot because of our small player base,” said Lachlan.

“We are going to focus on building out each players individual brand, whether that be their YouTube channel, focusing on content creation.”

Lachlan also talked about his ambitions to send his entire roster to North America, where they will have a better chance to qualify for the Fortnite World Cup. Since this year’s tournament has been cancelled, Team PWR will have to wait until 2021 to launch their FWC campaign.

Riot Games Oceania has partnered up with Denmark-based audio solutions & technology company EPOS, formerly known as Sennheiser Communications, for the second split of the Oceanic Pro League (OPL) in 2020.

As a part of the deal, EPOS will become the official audio partner for the premier League of Legends esports competition in Australia and New Zealand for the remainder of the season and into 2021. This is just one of many big business moves EPOS have made in the past few months, coming on the heels of partnerships with prominent esports tournament organisers BLAST, German esports organisation SK Gaming and Danish esports organisation North.

“The continued growth of the OPL in Split 1 was fantastic to see and we are thrilled to bring EPOS on board as an Official Partner to support and enhance the OPL,” said Daniel Ringland, Head of Riot Games in Oceania.

“As a business, we want to work with leaders in their field and when it comes to Audio, EPOS have incredible technology and products that will deliver an exceptional audio performance to the league.”

The second split of OPL began on Friday, June 5, featuring Legacy Esports, Chief Esports, Dire Wolves, Avant Gaming, Pentanet.GG, ORDER, MAMMOTH and Gravitas. The only notable changes for the current split is the move to an online format, meaning all teams will play their games either from the organisation-owned gaming houses or players’ homes.

This new partnership is a huge move for both EPOS and the OPL, as sponsorships have become a paramount concern in Oceanic esports.

In November, ahead of the 2020 season, Riot Games Oceania announced that OPL teams would no longer receive financial support, while the minimum player salary of AUD $14,320 per year (US $10k) was scrapped. This means OPL teams now have to rely on sponsorship funding to cover operational costs and player wages.

“EPOS strive to unleash human potential and give gaming another dimension through powerful audio solutions and we are very excited to be working with Riot Games,” said Maja Fr?lunde Sand-Grimnitz, Head of Global Marketing for Gaming at EPOS.

“As a business, we bring 115 years of audio expertise to the OPL partnership and we want to enhance the league by delivering our state-of-the-art audio equipment to ensure a high-end audio experience for all involved.”

EPOS has become the third big-brand company to link with the OPL as a sponsor. Neosurf signed on as a league partner in April, while McDonald’s will remain as gameday sponsors until the end of 2020.
