]]>Modus Unity and HellRaisers will lock horns for the first time in history this Wednesday in week one of the Dota 2 Parimatch League Season 2 Round Robin stage.
Looking back at Season 1 of Parimatch League, HellRaisers snuck through to the LAN Finals with a 3-4 record. In the playoffs they lost to Virtus.pro in round one of the upper bracket but managed to dust themselves off quickly and defeated Team Spirit and jfshfh178 in the lower bracket, thus climbing their way to the grand finals. HellRaisers were no match for Virtus.pro, however, and lost the deciding series 0-3.
Since their last appearance in the Parimatch League back in November, HellRaisers took a swing at DreamLeague Season 13 CIS Closed Qualifiers, where they did not make it out of the group following a 0-1 defeat against Virtus.pro in the tie-breaker. The CIS squad also finished third at WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020 CIST Qualifiers and crashed out of the Maincast Winter Brawl in the quarter-finals, where the Russians lost to OG Seed.
Following a streak of underwhelming results, HellRaisers opted to rebuild their roster by adding three new players in former Team Unique member Arslan “xannii” Shandjanov, ex-Aachen City Esports player Gleb “Funn1k” Lipatnikov and newcomer Georgiy “Gilgir” Svistunov. The trio replaced Nikita “Elmo” Lomanov, Pavel “bowbowbow” Mostakov and Oleg “sayuw” Kalenbet, who all parted ways with the team on Monday, January 27.

The new roster made its first appearance in competitive play at the Hainan Master Spring Invitational – CIS Qualifier. There, Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov and the company defeated FlyToMoon, Team Unique, forZe and Cyber Legacy to punch their ticket for the main event, which has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak in China.
Standing on the other side of the arena will be Modus Unity, who formed in March 2019. Their roster consists of some lesser-known players including team captain Stanislav “чикиряу” Yarosevich, Nikita “young G” Bochko, Vladislav “DkFogas” Frolov, Sergey “TSA” Timchenko and Dmitriy “kickeed” Pilyaev.
Since their formation, Modus Unity have made several appearances in minor tournaments and qualifiers. In December 2019, the CIS squad finished second at Mango Tango League Non-Pro Division A and won the Parimatch League S1 Relegation battle with two commanding 2-0 triumphs over Nemiga Gaming and Empire Hope (formerly Imperial Pro Gaming). At the end of the year, Modus Unity also took a swing at Maincast Winter Brawl but without any notable success, besides the 2-0 win over Danil “Dendi” Ishutin’s stack.
Other notable results came earlier in January, where Modus Unity finished eighth-11th in the Hot Price League and fifth-sixth at OMG.BET Cup 2. At both events, чикиряу’s squad failed to make it out of the group stage.
Esports bookmakers have HellRaisers priced as heavy favourites, which is understandable when they are facing a squad built from unproven Dota 2 talent. With that in mind, we can’t really debate whether Modus Unity can win here, but rather if they can cover the +1.5 map line.
If we look at HellRaisers’ results from their last eight best-of-three (Bo3) bouts, we can see that they won six of them and produced a clean sweep in only two – once against Team Unique and once against their academy team. While that might suggest HellRaisers are prone to drop at least one map in their Bo3s, we must take into consideration they defeated teams such as Cyber Legacy, forZe and FlyToMoon, all teams that have defeated Modus Unity.
What’s more is that HellRaisers are on a four-game winning streak, which should give them the needed momentum to deliver the goods. For those reasons, it’s safe to assume HellRaisers are far more likely to cover the line than Modus Unity.

Two of Russia’s strongest Dota 2 esports teams will renew hostilities when Virtus.pro ($1.20) take on HellRaisers ($4.19).
The first time these two teams met this season was at the MDL Chengdu Major CIS Closed Qualifiers, where HellRaisers produced an upset win to secure the top seed in their group. Virtus.pro got their revenge a week later when the two sides met in the round-robin stage of the Parimatch League, meaning they enter this bout with one win apiece.
That said, it is easy to see why Virtus.pro are priced as heavy favourites to win here. While HellRaisers struggled to finish above the relegation line at 3-4, Virtus.pro dropped only one match out of seven – a shock loss against FlyToMoon in round three – to enter the playoffs as the top seed.
HellRaisers will take a new-look roster into this fixture after signing Pavel “bowbowbow” Mostakov, Oleg “sayuw” Kalenbet and Nikita “Elmo” Lomanov. While those changes might help in the long run, it is hard to see the new arrivals settling in time to make a meaningful impact on Thursday’s bout.
Prediction: Virtus.pro -1.5 – $1.69 at GG Bet

After a dominant run in the round-robin stage of the tournament, Team Spirit ($1.22) enter their clash with jfshfh178 ($3.93) with the weight of expectation on their shoulders.
Most esports bookmakers seem to recognise Team Spirit as the stronger side, which we can agree with, but we can’t accept the inflated odds offered on jfshfh178.
The Team Spirit and jfshfh178 rosters have met twice this season. The first time was at the MDL Chengdu Major CIS Closed Qualifiers, where they produced a stalemate. The second clash, in the round-robin stage of the Parimatch League, ended 2-0 in Team Spirit’s favour.
However, 178 should not be underestimated. Nikita “Palantimos” Grinkevich and his squad finished fourth at DOTA Summit 11 at the start of the month, which was a praiseworthy achievement on its own, and now head to the Parimatch League playoffs as the third seed thanks to a 5-2 record – only slightly worse than Team Spirit at 6-1.
Esports bookies have jfshfh178 priced around $3.93 for the win, which is way overs. They might be underdogs, but 178 have shown they have enough and quality to win at least one map.
Prediction: jfshfh178 +1.5 – $1.98 at GG Bet

]]>HellRaisers ($2.03) versus jfshfh178 ($1.71) promises to be a thrilling bout between two of the strongest Dota 2 teams from CIS region. Friday’s clash will mark the first time these two sides meet in the Parimatch League and the fourth time in their history.
HellRaisers and jfshfh178 have met three times since the start of October, twice in DOTA Summit 11 qualifiers and once at the event itself. In the qualifiers we saw jfshfh178 win the first match 2-0, while HellRaisers got their revenge in the lower bracket finals (3-0). At Summit 11, it was HellRaisers who triumphed once more (2-1), but it was a much closer fixture than the first two.
While HellRaisers have the upper hand on form, they enter this fixture with only three active members following the departure of Alik “V-Tune” Vorobey and Ilya “ALOHADANC” Korobkin. That will force the team to find stand-ins, which should tilt the balance back to towards jfshfh178.
Prediction: jfshfh178 to win – $1.71 at GG Bet
Gentlemen ($2.12) and HellRaisers ($1.66) will lock horns in the second fixture of the day. While esports bookmakers are forecasting a HellRaisers win, there are a few factors to consider before jumping on the favourites.
We have expressed some concerns about the quality of the HellRaisers team due to their incomplete roster. Still, we do not feel comfortable siding with Gentlemen because they have failed to show anything promising throughout the league.

Gentlemen’s first win of the tournament came against Nemiga, and even that was a close one (2-1). Their second win came against PRIES, who forfeited the match.
All things considered, HellRaisers are underestimated here. They might be a hit-or-miss pick with only three active members, but we can’t see them losing against Gentlemen.
Prediction: HellRaisers to win – $1.66 at GG Bet
Gentlemen ($2.22) versus jfshfh178 ($1.60) comes off as a one-sided fixture, and we believe it will be just that.
There is no doubt jfshfh178 are the stronger team here and while the odds show that, we still feel like 1.60 is a bit too generous for a team that finished Summit 11 in fourth place.
At Summit, jfshfh178 decimated NiP (2-0) twice and even chipped one map off the eventual champions, Invictus Gaming (1-2), which is enough to make us believe they are a level above Gentlemen.
Jfshfh178 need to win this match to qualify for Parimatch League Season 2, which will add some motivation.
Prediction: jfshfh178 to win – $1.60 at GG Bet
The fourth and final match of the day will feature Nemiga ($2.01) and FlyToMoon ($1.73), who are both looking to dodge relegation.
FlyToMoon could potentially finish top four. For that happen, both jfshfh178 and HellRaisers would need to lose their fixtures, which is not likely.
On the other hand, a 0-2 defeat here would see FlyToMoon swap places with Nemiga and drop down to the seventh place, which leads into relegation matches. Nemiga need to win to have a chance of finishing above Gentlemen and avoiding the drop.
We believe urgency will inspire efficiency in both teams, who will not go down without a fight. They performed equally well throughout the tournament, which points towards a close match, and the odds for three maps to be played are too good to ignore.
Prediction: Over 2.5 maps – $2.01 at GG Bet
